GC Larado Transmission

I have just got a 1998 GC Larado 2.5TD, it drives OK in 2WD (appart from a slight clunking at the rear when releasiing the clutch. when I change to 4WD its very eratic, it jerks all over the place, this is particularly noticable when on full lock. The clutch is also very harsh in 4WD.

Any ideas?
